2016 Litter Index

What is a Litter INDEX?

The Litter Index is a sophisticated tool designed by Keep America Beautiful, which is in use across the nation to measure the amount of visible litter in a community.  Teams of volunteers drive through communities and survey a random, statistical sample of five percent of all street segments in the city. Then Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software is used to map the results.

When is our next Litter Index?

We will be mapping our community for litter and beautification appearance by on September 10, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. and will meet at I. C. Norcom High School on the London Blvd. side for a brief meeting before departing into various Portsmouth neighborhoods and “score” them for their cleanness, appearance and over all beautification. This data is then used to help in future community cleanups and fostering beautiful and clean neighborhoods.

We will also have a bicycle index mapping team. If you would like more details please contact info@kpbva.org.
